New work-in-progress

Hey everyone, :)

Due to the sudden amount of extra free time I have this month I have now been working on two different personal illustrations one of which I just started (which is another inspired by Halloween) and a Japanese themed one which I had started about a year ago and had almost forgotten about it.

The image to the left is a close-up preview, small section of the very large (Japanese themed) painting that I have been working on titled "Misaki". So far I have put a ton of hours into it including the work I had started a year ago. I am really pushing myself farther with the detail and realism of this piece especially since It will be going into my portfolio. I even hand painted and designed the pattern for her Kimono as well which took a lot of time on it's own. As tempting as it can be to paste a pre-existing pattern onto your artwork I felt it was important to dedicate the time to create/paint this personalized pattern for the character as it tells a story about her as well. Each of the flowers on her Kimono represent different traits of her personality and character :) This wiki guide was helpful link. I don't like to use pre-existing patterns anyway since it's far more fulfilling/rewarding to take the time to create your own.

Apart from some other recent paintings I have finished and others still in the works for my Art-book this one will be posted to my website :).

The full version of this image is 10,000 pixels tall and includes a detailed background of a Japanese garden (which I'm still refining) a few plants and flowers in the foreground and another figure standing beside her. The full figures are shown in the image as well. I'm finally just about done with this image and will be posting it soon. Keep checking back! :)

Painted using Adobe Photoshop and Corel Painter.

I hope you all like the preview and thanks for your visit! :D

Quick painting for Halloween titled "Ghost"

Hey everyone, :)

Here is a quick little painting I did for Halloween (which is now a little over two weeks away) on the side of some commissions I've been working on. I wanted to paint a dark ghostly apparition that was beautiful and horrifying - much like the zombie piece I painted last year link. I Went with a very limited palette this time around - It was different for me since I usually work with very saturated color schemes ( I love color) but this was a nice change and it was interesting working with a limited/ less saturated palette for a change. I had a song from Rob Zombie (called "Living Dead Girl") stuck in my head almost the whole time while painting this.

Prints and cards are available here for those interested.

Painted in Photoshop - around 5 hours of work mostly experimenting with the design.

Thanks for taking a look and have a wonderful Halloween everyone! :)

New finished Fan-Art! :D

Hey everyone! :D

Well, I finally took some time to work on this one on the side of my art-book project and I think I will now consider it finished. I could have worked into it a lot more but I'm now pretty happy with this result. My goal for this work was to create a sexy and realistic depiction of Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask in a steamy embrace. I wanted to maintain as much likeness as I could while making them look more realistic. This work is titled "After the Battle" ;)

Here is a link to my previous post with the work-in-progress!

During the process of creating this work, I made a rose petal effect brush which I decided to make available to download as a thank you to all of you other artists who check out my blog. When using this brush it's helpful to blur the petals a bit to create a sense of movement. Enjoy!

You can download the brush here

And here is a close-up as well. :)

Hope you all like it and thanks for your visit! :D

Another work-in-progress for my artbook :)

Hey everyone :)

Thought I'd post a small preview here of another painting I'm currently working on for my art book project. This is just a small section of a much larger painting which includes almost the full figure of the character.

This painting process has been pretty epic so far, I've been working on lots and lots of detail throughout the whole painting and it has taken a great deal of time so far, but I always try and push myself farther with each new painting.

I hope to finish my art book soon but there is still quite a bit more content that I have yet to finish for it.

I hope you all like it and thanks for your visit! :)

New Painting titled "Pink Super Earth (Xianthen-18)"

Hey everyone,

I was motivated today to paint something different from my usual work.

I love astronomy and I think that the universe is the ultimate artist - it is an incredible source of inspiration to me. I am so fascinated with the cosmos and all the possibilities of finding other earth-like worlds - even in our own Milkyway galaxy.

I decided to create my own planet, which I've made to look somewhat similar to our world but incapable of supporting life from earth. This planet would be 3-times the mass of Earth and is surrounded by rings of diamond-rich asteroids. The 4 moons create enormous tides in its seas of liquid argon. The argon atmosphere ignites with light caused by surges of radiation of a nearby pulsar. If this planet could support any form of life, they'd likely be very flat and luminescent from the electrified atmosphere.

I'm planning on painting a landscape based off of this planet soon!

About a few hours of work done in Photoshop.

Thanks for looking and for your visit! :)

New artbook cover art work-in-progress

Hey everyone!

Here is a small work-in-progress preview section of the new cover art for my upcoming art book which I hope to finish soon. As I've mentioned before (in my previous posts) the art book will include many new paintings (which will not be featured on my website, blog or other online galleries) as well as short stories and painting walk-throughs explaining a bit about my work-flow and painting process. This painting should be finished soon (as well as the art book) but there is still quit a lot of work I want to do on it and a lot more detail that I want to add. I love painting small details! :D

Hope you all like it so far and thanks for your visit!

Sailor Moon Fan-art work-in-progress titled "After the Battle"

Update: This painting is now finished! you can see it here

Hey everyone! :)

Just thought I'd post a work-in-progress that I recently started.

When I was a young teen, I used to watch Sailor Moon with my little cousin after school. I recently happened upon an old episode on YouTube and decided to watch a bit of the series again. It brought back a ton of memories and inspiration to create this painting.

The show is geared toward young girls so it doesn't contain much more than Serena and Darien (aka Usagi and Mamoru) kissing and I guess since I'm now older and I've watched so many R-rated shows such as The Tudors and Spartacus - I wanted to paint a slightly more erotic/sensual and realistic depiction of them together.

This image is for all you older Sailor Moon fans who always hoped to see a bit more from Serena and Daren. ;)

Overall I think the image is coming along nicely and it's been a lot of fun to work on. There is still so much work I want to do on it. His face especially needs a lot of work most of it is still in shadow now. I want to maintain as much likeness as I can to the original anime characters whilst making them look more realistic.

I should be able to finish it soon.

Thanks for your visit :)

Share One Planet competition entry (Green Peafowl)

Hey everyone!

Thought I'd post my "Share One planet" competition entry up here especially since I unfortunately haven't posted any updates to this blog for a while - been pretty occupied lately with projects, commissions, and life etc.

I didn't really decide to participate in the contest until about the last month since I had been so preoccupied and wasn't sure if I could dedicate the time to it so as a result I only had a few days to work on and off on it and unfortunately couldn't focus on it as much as I would have liked. I'm happy with the way it turned out though and it was a lot of fun. I may work into it again in the future when I find time but it's hard to decide which personal projects to work on next when I have so many works-in-progress waiting to be finished.

The Green Peafowl is quite a beautiful and amazing bird it's such a shame that they are endangered. Here is an interesting wiki article for those interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Peafowl

There were so many fantastic entries to the competition, you can check them out here: http://www.shareoneplanet.org/en/artlist.aspx

Thanks for your visit! :)

Lady Gaga inspired portrait

Hey everyone, :)

Up really late again and just finished this quick portrait.

I don't generally like pop music let alone pop stars that much but I like Lady Gaga because she is quite artistic and unique herself. She is known for her crazy and rather strange looks and you never know what to expect from her next. Her strangeness is what I like most about her.

I got inspired today to paint a quick portrait based on Lady Gaga while listening to some of her music - I wanted to give her a unique look of my own, don't know if she has ever worn a wig shaped like a pyramid before but I know she has worn something similar.

Here is a link to her latest video if interested. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wV1FrqwZyKw

Overall this was a lot of fun to paint. Spent about 4 hours on it so far.

Painted using Photoshop and Painter.

Thanks for visiting :)

New finished painting titled "The Curse"

Hey everyone, :)

Aside of working on a few commissions I finally managed to finish this painting. As I do with each new image I really pushed myself and I'm quite happy with the result. The leaves and other foliage was time consuming but fun to paint. The most enjoyable part about creating this work was that it gave me a chance to step a bit out of my box. I wanted to design a creature for a change that is a bit scary as opposed to another type of romantic human female character though they are still enjoyable for me to paint. :)

The story I have in mind for this character is that she was once a beautiful young woman who (due to a curse from a jealous rival) is now doomed to live out her days as a cave/swamp dwelling creature. She longs for the day that her nightmare with end.

Painted using Photoshop and Painter.

As I mentioned before in the work-in-progress post, I'm currently working on a full story for this image, which will be available in an art book that I'm currently working on. Find out more HERE.

Thanks for your visit. :)
